Life and loss
What's a loss that's shaped who you are?
In the Christian tradition, this week leading up to Easter is all about foreboding and loss. We commemorate the final days of a remarkable man who was about to die, and follow along with his ragtag group of friends who are slowly catching on to what's happening. The story walks us through all the stages of grief, connecting us viscerally to the reality that loss is at the heart of our human experience.
The loss part of this story has been especially poignant for me this year, as in the midst of it all we're saying goodbye to some of our dearest friends. I celebrate this move for them, but I'm nevertheless left with the ache of their absence. Another painful farewell in my life that's been marked by so, so many.
It seems appropriate to reflect--on the day that Jesus' friends grieved his death--on our own experiences of loss. So if you're willing to share, I'd welcome your story.
