Beyond the horizon
When do you feel at your most creative?
At the urging of my oldest, I just finished reading Reclaiming Art in the Age of Artifice: A Treatise, Critique, and Call to Action. It's a niche topic, to be sure. But the book has inspired some really rich reflections and conversations! One of the phrases I keep coming back to is a reference to art as the "...direct experience of something... from beyond the horizon of the familiar."
Which has me wondering about the the wide range of ways that each of us might access that experience. It could be that we create art of some kind, or maybe we enjoy it at our local museum. Perhaps we're creative in our kitchens, or in the way we think about holiday gift-giving. Regardless of how we get there, there's no question we all have paths that lead towards that horizon.
So please, tell me about your creative experience! How do you connect with that part of yourself, and with the horizon just beyond?
